This spring at Hugh’s Room Live, InTune brings musicians and music lovers together for an authentic experience. We blend musical sets with openhearted conversations about the realities of building and sustaining a life in music.

Each InTune session features working artists sharing their craft, followed by meaningful dialogue about the parts of the creative journey that often stay offstage: adaptability, community, finances, and wellbeing.

The kinds of conversations usually whispered backstage or saved for late‑night talks with trusted friends are now being brought into the open — shared freely and without pressure among people who care about music and the artists behind it.
Session lineup
Session 1: The Realities of Music Work & Navigating Burnout
Life in music is about more than the spotlight. Drawing on Canadian Soundcheck research, this session shines a light on the hidden pressures of creative work — financial insecurity, stigma, hustle culture, and burnout — and explores what it really takes to build a sustainable career in the arts. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of these realities, learn to recognize early signs of burnout, and leave with practical strategies for protecting both creativity and wellbeing over the long term.
Session 2: Building Financial Resilience for Artists
Money stress is one of the biggest barriers to wellbeing in the arts. Informed by Soundcheck findings, this session explores the link between financial health and mental health. Participants will gain practical tools for budgeting through uncertainty, planning for lean times, and accessing resources to build financial resilience. Creative Arts Financial will be lead in presenting this session.
Session 3: Music as Medicine: Creativity and Mental Wellbeing
Music doesn’t just entertain — it heals. This session explores the science of music and mental health, alongside stories from artists using creativity to navigate struggle and build resilience. Participants will walk away inspired and equipped with simple ways to integrate creativity into daily self-care practices.
Session 4: Leadership & Culture Change in the Music Industry
Mental health in music isn’t just an individual challenge — it’s a leadership responsibility. This session brings together experts and artists to explore how leaders can create psychologically safe, supportive environments. Participants will leave with practical strategies and inspiration to drive meaningful culture change in the industry.
