Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA)
From short-term savings to long-term investments, your TFSA protects every dollar of growth from tax.
Ways to save and invest with a TFSA
A TFSA gives you options: cash, term deposits (GICs), mutual funds, stocks, ETFs, and more. We’ll help you build a portfolio that fits your needs.
Advantages of a TFSA
Put your after-tax savings into a TFSA and let your money grow tax-free.
No restrictions
Save for a home, education, or any other expense — no limits on how you use your funds.
Tax-free growth
Your contributions and returns grow tax-free — and withdrawals are tax-free too.
Access anytime
Withdraw funds whenever you need them (subject to investment terms).
Worry-free withdrawals
Withdrawals don’t affect your eligibility for federal income-tested benefits.
Re-contribute with ease
When you withdraw, you can re-contribute that amount in future years, beyond your annual limit.
Carry it forward
Didn’t max out this year? No worries, your unused contribution room rolls over.
TFSA contribution limits
Not sure about your FHSA limit? Check with the CRA to see how much room you have left.
$7,000 for 2025
In 2025, you can contribute up to $7,000 to your TFSA, plus any carry-forward room from previous years.
$102,000
If you were 18 or older and a Canadian resident in 2009, this is your total TFSA contribution room. It grows each year as the government sets new annual limits.
December 31
You can contribute anytime, but each contribution counts toward your annual limit until December 31.
